My POV of the Griffith Cafeteria

If you’re a student at Griffith College, you know that your “real” home base isn’t just the library or the lecture halls, it’s the cafeteria. In my latest video, I wanted to capture the specific energy of our on-campus restaurant, Gather & Gather, from my own point of view.

For me, this space is the heartbeat of campus life. It’s where the morning starts with that first “roasted brown” coffee from the Gather & Brew counter, and where the stress of a mid-day exam finally starts to melt away. My goal with this video was to show the transition from the “academic” side of college to the “social” side.

From the steam rising off a hot lunch to the sound of friends catching up between classes, this is my perspective on the place where we refuel, regroup, and relax. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s the backdrop to our best college memories.

The Thinking Behind the Edit (POV Edition)

Here is how to explain your specific “POV” choices for your assignment:

1. The “First-Person” Experience

  • The Thinking: I used many “eye-level” shots and close-ups of food and coffee to mimic a student’s actual experience. I wanted the viewer to feel like they are the ones walking through the doors and sitting down at the table.

2. Capturing the “Gather & Gather” Brand

  • The Thinking: I focused on the “freshly made” aspect of the cafeteria. By showing the textures of the food and the professional barista setup, I’m highlighting the quality that Griffith provides, contrasting the “boring college canteen” stereotype.

3. Atmosphere over Information

  • The Thinking: Instead of a dry “tour” of the facility, I chose a POV style that emphasizes mood. I used natural lighting and the actual ambient “hum” of the cafeteria (or a relaxed soundtrack) to communicate that this is a welcoming, safe space for students to de-stress.

4. Strategic Pacing

  • The Thinking: I intentionally kept the cuts rhythmic but steady. In the hustle of college life, the cafeteria is our “pause” button. The pacing of the video reflects that moment of rest in a busy student schedule.
