Dublin’s experimental punk group Digdeep have released a live rendition of their track “Bog Body,” recorded at Blacklion Studios in between sessions for their upcoming album. This performance of an old song captures the band’s new sonic additions, showcasing a new trajectory of their music.

The recording introduces two new collaborators: synthesiser player Lu Hope, also known as the front-person of folk group Grá, and violinist Chloe Fitzgerald, who is not a permanent member but joins for recordings and the odd gig. Both musicians will feature on the upcoming album, with Lu also contributing vocals.

Marking a decisive shift in direction, Digdeep’s new material moves beyond the earlier rock foundations and towards more experimental territory. The band’s evolving sound incorporates new textures, noise elements, and percussion. Drummer Zach Sheridan has developed a custom-built noise rig, featuring microphones, pedals, and found materials, including bones and scrap metal, to bring original new ideas to the compositions. This brings a raw, exploratory edge to the group’s songs. The band describes this approach not as a natural progression, but as a deliberate rejection of any songwriting trappings they may get caught in.

The album, set to be Digdeep’s largest release to date, will be accompanied by a series of visually driven music videos, each drawing from distinct artistic influences. Upcoming singles include “Flysexual,” inspired by the body horror of David Cronenberg; “Staigín,” rooted in Irish folk archives; and “Freudened,” influenced by the surrealist cinema of David Lynch.

The first singles are scheduled for release in August, alongside a European tour with dates in Latvia, Germany, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. hese are to be Digdeep’s first shows abroad, with most taking place in occupied buildings and squats, keeping with the band’s social ethos. A show in Hannover will be held in a squat; a full day festival featuring vegan meals and performances from other local bands.

Digdeep recently performed with an expanded eight-member lineup at The Button Factory in Dublin, reflecting the scale and ambition of their current work. That gig was their largest yet, featuring new songs, clown antics, and amazing support from Bulbs and Dose.
