The month of December often sees the release of a number of films, each as entertaining and sensational as the next. This year, the major releases of the month are from Netflix, and they’ve prepared something for us to enjoy over the Christmas holidays. Not sure we’ve got time to rest with a programme like that. We’ve picked out the top 5 not to be missed, but believe me there are more than 5 and you can find the full list right here.

Leave the World Behind (2023)

On 8 December, get your popcorn ready for the new Netflix film “Leave The World Behind”, starring a crazy cast: Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, and Myha’la Herrold. It’s a post-apocalysis comedy, with Netflix teasing the film as a moment “When an idyllic getaway suddenly turns to chaos, trust quickly fray”. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam. Here’s what you have to know : it’s a story about a family holiday on Long Island which is disrupted by two unfamiliar individuals who deliver news of an enigmatic power failure. As the danger becomes more pressing, both families must determine the most effective way to endure the potential catastrophe, all while assessing their own positions in this disintegrating world.

On 14 December, get ready for the return of the magnificent series The Crown, but this time for its grand finale. For those who would like to start the series, it follows Peter Morgan’s historical drama of Queen Elizabeth II’s seventy-year reign, which ends with the remaining episodes of season six. But you’ll need to watch the other seasons if you don’t want to miss out on this breathtaking series.

23 years after the original, which I’m sure we’ve all seen dozens of times, our favourite chickens Ginger and Rocky return to face the dastardly Mrs Tweedy once again, whose diabolical new plan threatens all chickenkind (yet again). A new story will be on your screens on 15 December: after successfully escaping from Tweedy’s farm in a daring and risky manner, Ginger has found her perfect sanctuary – an idyllic island reserved exclusively for birds where the entire flock can coexist without any human interference. With Ginger and Rocky’s new daughter, Molly’s arrival, it seems that Ginger’s fairytale ending has finally come true. Nonetheless, the whole chicken population is now facing a threatening and novel danger on the mainland, spearheaded by a familiar adversary. Intent on safeguarding their freedom, even at the risk of endangerment, Ginger and her team are resolute in their determination to break in.

Maestro (2023)

The biopic of the legendary composer Leonard Bernstein directed by and starring Bradley Cooper. who doesn’t love a film by Bradley Cooper ? Maestro is a biographical drama movie set to be released in 2023. The plot revolves around the romantic relationship of the American composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife, Felicia Montealegre. But you’ll have to watch it to find out more. In any case, the film has been hailed as a “masterpiece” by critics and audiences alike. Available on 20 December.
