A few days ago, I ran into an old acquaintance and… wow. I was speechless. Not because I had missed them, but because their eyebrows were ahem… interesting. That got me noticing brows everywhere. Out of the eight people I observed with makeup, five had brows that made me do a double take. It got me thinking, eyebrows can make or break your entire look and a lot of people are struggling. Lucky for you, I know how to fix them.

Why Does It Even Matter?

I know that’s the question on your mind, why do brows even matter? Think of it like this, your brows are the filter that your face wears 24/7, get them wrong and everything looks off.

Your brows frame your face and influence your facial expressions. Too high? You look stunned all day. Too low? You risk looking droopy or tired. Too dark or light and it would look weird and completely ruin the vibe of your makeup. So you see the power they hold?

I’m not a prophet of doom so here is some good news; most brow problems are fixable once you know what to look out for.

Common Brow Problems… and how to fix them

Not all brow problems are created equal. Here are some of the most common ones I see.

  • The Blocky Eyebrows: What’s a “blocky brow“? It’s basically when the eyebrows have a particular rectangular shape starting from the front. It usually happens when too much product is used, so fixing it starts from there. Use less product and try to be light handed when drawing your brows on. Social Media creator, Angelica Galindez has a video that shows this perfectly and how to fix it.
  • The Dark/Light Eyebrows: Choosing a shade that is too dark or light can make your brows look fake or harsh. A helpful tip is to try matching it to your eyebrow hair colour! Check out this helpful guide to picking your pencil/tint shade.
  • Uneven Shaped Brow: Yes brows are cousins not twins but they are not distant cousins. While I admit that brows hardly look exactly the same, they are meant to look alike. One should not be darker than the other or higher than the other. When they are uneven, they can throw off the balance of your entire face. There are many more brow problems than the ones listed here, but this is a good place to start. If you suspect your brows are working against your makeup, identifying the issue is the first step. Once you understand what your brows need, fixing them becomes much easier.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, your brows don’t need to be perfect, they just need to work with your face, not against it. The great news is, if your brows are blocky, the wrong shade or even just uneven, you can fix it. It typically comes down to using less product, choosing better colours and paying attention to balance.

A little grooming goes a long way too. Brushing your brows in place, trimming them and blending properly can instantly make your makeup look more polished. Brows have a huge impact and once you get them right, everything else falls into place.

So next time you are doing your brows, remember you’re not just drawing hair, you’re framing your entire look.
