VIDEO – One week with Extinction Rebellion activists in Dublin

Co-reporting : Héloïse Vinale

The rebellion started on the 7th of October. During one week, millions of people around the world take part in non-violent actions and disruptive civil disobedience.

The movement took place in more than 66 cities. Extinction Rebellion was first created in London one year ago by two environment activists to protest against government inaction on climate change. It now gains ground because of the climate emergency. The group has no leader, just citizens who want a better future. Everyone is welcomed and can join them in their peaceful protests.

Even if they were less than other places in the world, in Dublin the militants were as motivated than others. They wanted to show how Irish people and their governments should act for the planet. To do so they wrote a 3 demands letter to the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, in which they are asking the government to “Tell the Truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency”, to “Act Now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2025″ and to “create a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.
