Turkey celebrates National Sovereignty and Children’s Day

Today is Children’s day in Turkey. National Sovereignty and Children’s Day is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm in Turkey with various activities by children.

23 April Children`s Day is a national holiday in Turkey which was given as a gift from the founder of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk to children in 1920 and it was first celebrated on 23 April 1920.  It is one of the official celebrations of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

In 1979, the festival first moved to the international dimension with the participation of six countries, children in many countries of the world began to come to Turkey.

Turkey Radio and Television Corporation, after announcing 1979 as the Year of the Child UNESCO, launched the TRT International April 23rd Children’s Festival, the festival was moved to the international level.

It is organized in order to contribute to the formation of a world in which the children will live in peace by developing the bonds of fraternity, love, and friendship.

Today, the festival is attended by children from many countries, various demonstrations are prepared, ceremonies and various activities are organized in schools.
