After Noel Gallagher’s recent ‘psychedelic’ appearance on Match of the Day 2, the interesting topic of the modern-day rockstar and the football club they support was thrown up. Here are the top five football-mad music stars and their beloved clubs.

1. Serge Pizzorno (Kasabian) – Leicester City

Kasabian guitarist and songwriter Serge Pizzorno is one of four staunch Leicester City fans in the band, but is easily the most outspoken band member when it comes to football and even once did an interview on FourFourTwo regarding his beloved Foxes. It would certainly be interesting to hear Serge’s take on the current footballing industry, with his team currently propping up the Premier League table. He is no stranger to the pitch either, having once had trials with Nottingham Forest and being honoured by Italian club Genoa, a region where he has family ties. Most importanly, he once did this on cult football show Soccer AM:

Not bothered about his builder’s crack, Serge showed Forest what they missed out on all those yeas ago. Helen Chamberlain could barely contain herself! And more recently, Serge went and did this:

Pure genius. A rockstar supporter for every Leicester City fan to be proud of.

2. Nick ‘Peanut’ Baines (Kaiser Chiefs) – Leeds United

Much like Kasabian, the Kaiser Chiefs as a whole are Leeds United supporters and hail from the city. Keyboardist Nick Baines makes the list ahead of his bandmates largely due to his excellent nickname and shared surname with Everton full-back and sometimes Beatles lookalike Leighton Baines. Once known as Parva, the band needed a new identity and this was inspired by their love of Leeds. Their current name stems from South African football club Kaizer Chiefs, the first club of ex-Leeds captain and legend Lucas Radebe. While the band’s popularity may have waned in recent years, they are held in extremely high regard by Leeds fans. An article on talkSPORT showcased a Cheryl Cole-related chant created by the band that Leeds supporters voted their best ever chant:

3. Liam Gallagher (Formerly Oasis and Beady Eye) – Manchester City

Another former Oasis member that is a huge Manchester City fan, but him sitting with his brother at the Etihad is about as likely as the reformation of the cult rock band. Both brothers would claim they are the more ferocious supporter, and now Noel has an appearance on MOTD2 to add to his fan resumé. But has he ever done something as bold as this?

Right after a huge win over their fiercest, most-hated rivals – it doesn’t get much more rockstar football-supporter than this.

4. Russell Brand – West Ham United

OK, maybe not quite a quintessential rockstar but Brand certainly exudes the personality of one. And of course, if you’re anything like me, you will consider Aldous Snow to be one of the greatest rockstars of all time (forget about African Child!). A diehard Hammers fan, Russell Brand’s love of the Irons is evident even in non-football related pictures:

And in a Liam Gallagher-esque display of club pride and emotion, Brand even managed to land a sloppy one on Sam Allardyce’s cheek:

Sam would probably have preferred Katy Perry to appear in all her West Ham glory, but he still looked pretty pleased.

5.  Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) – West Ham United

The Hammers seem to easily come out on top in terms of celebrity supporters. Foo Fighters frontman and iconic rockstar Dave Grohl is among the legion of famous faces that follow the East London outfit. In an interview with VH1, Grohl spoke of his affection for the Premier League, mentioning West Ham in particular as a team he enjoys watching. Let’s hope he leaves dressing up in the club’s kit to the likes of Pixie Lott and Katy though!
