The Year of the Snake has come and gone and I still haven’t worn my boots

A “review” of Adidas Predator’s special edition boots (a year later)

In light of Adidas releasing their new Equipment 2026 special edition boot this week, I want to take a look back at an extravagant pair of boots I bought over a year ago.

And still haven’t worn.

The Year of the Snake is the 6th animal of 12 in the Chinese Zodiac cycle. This took place from January 29th 2025 to February 16th 2026. It has been said that ‘People born in the Year of the Snake are believed to be intuitive, strategic, and intelligent’. People who buy boots in that year are obviously none of those things.

Adidas released a boot commemorating the special event. What better way to celebrate the new year I wasn’t even remotely celebrating.

These things cost me 300 quid. I’ve never even worn them outside. Kevin McCallister would be ashamed of me. The only thing I have going for me is that at my ripe old age of 30, my feet probably aren’t going to be getting much bigger.

This is obviously my fault. The boots are special. Glorious in fact. But I can’t just wear them to any match. God forbid I wear them to training. I had to develop a criteria when it would be acceptable to wear them.

It needs to be a home match, with a photographer, a bit of a crowd, on a sunny day, in a match we’re likely to win, when I’m in the starting team. I could not guarantee all of these factors would be present at any stage last year. So really, it’s actually not my fault. It was my manager’s fault. A structural issue. These things always come from the top down. They obviously didn’t come down enough to my feet though.

If Adidas could stop making these ridiculously nice predators, we might be onto something. I took a picture of all the boots I owned last year (I still own them) and I came to the conclusion that I simply own too many boots. I didn’t even play for 2 years and still bought like 3 pairs.

Then there was my birthday. I was gifted another pair… What can I do? Why must I endure this hardship? I only have two feet!

The gift I received was another collaboration, this time with thefootballgal. You’ll get your chance in 2027.

Adidas, please remember, I’m a student now. I can no longer be so cavalier with my finances. So if you see this, UK 10.5 soft ground, thanks.
