The true essence of living

Whenever people talk about healthy living a lot of people think it’s all about diet/food consumption, although the food we eat somewhat constitutes our healthiness but not entirely.

Healthy living does not just involve eating. It involves our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing as a whole.

When all this is in a good place then we can then say we are healthy. This is because the physical and mental health of a person is closely linked and so when change occurs (good or bad) it affects the mind and the body of an individual which in turn affects their productivity.

According to WHO, mental health is a state of wellbeing in which an individual realizes his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and can make a contribution to his/her community.

It is more than just the absence of mental disorders but one’s ongoing wellness and happiness-says WHO.

In our society today, mental and emotional health is not stressed enough compared to physical health.

Sometimes, life can get overwhelming and can affect one’s ability to enjoy life or see the good that there is in life. It is therefore essential to strike a balance between life’s activities as several elements of life can affect one’s mental health.

To boost your mental health here is what you can do:

  1. Take a break.
  2. Treat yourself.
  3. Open up to someone you trust.
  4. Stay away from toxic environments/people.
  5. Excercise as this decreases depression and increases your self-esteem.
  6. Volunteer to help someone.
  7. Avoid eating excessively when sad as it only worsens your condition.
  8. Learn to deal with stress.
  9. Set realistic goals.
  10. Break the non-beneficial daily routine.

Practice all this and watch your mental health soar!
