Depression is a disorder associated with mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs. Depression is insidious. It affects your mood and ability to feel, think, and function. It blunts sensations of pleasure, closes off connectedness, stifles creativity, and, at its worst, shuts down hope. It also often causes deep emotional pain, not only to the person experiencing it but also to their close family and friends.

The world health organization (WHO) acknowledged that 5.% of adults suffer from depression, which is most common among women. The most damaging aspect of depression accounts is that it can lead to suicidal thoughts.

Depression is often misunderstood as sadness; everyone has felt sad at some point in their lives, but not everyone has felt depressed There is, however, no particular cause for depression, as it’s likely to arrive in different forms and levels. One major factor believed to be the cause is loneliness and not being loved. Hardship, as well as trauma and brain damage, can also be contributing factors. Some people also get depressed as a result of their genetic makeup. However, if you experience any of these five factors, you might be going through depression.

Depression, if not well treated, can often lead to suicidal thoughts, which can be avoided if one tries to change their life pattern by physically exercising more, going out and meeting new people, and talking with a therapist to guide you through depression. There has also been the introduction of anti-depressant drugs to help control such feelings.
