A Nigerian soldier identified as Lieutenant Luka Ishaya Kurmi was killed in Rivers state yesterday the 23rd of February during the general elections held in Nigeria just two months to his wedding.
According to the Nigerian Army, Kurmi was killed during a face-off between troops of 6 division and some political thugs who barricaded a major road in Abonnema, Rivers state.
The gallant troops fought their way through the siege and in the process killed six of the assailants, however, Kurmi was killed.
A preliminary investigation indicated that one Roland Sekibo, the chairman Akuku Toru Local government area and Omodo, the CSO Akuku Tora LGA and Kenneth of Kula, currently at large, were the masterminds of the attack.
Late kurmi was set to wed his fiancee, Alheri Ganya Bissa, on Saturday, April 20th in Kebbi state.
Investigations are still ongoing to bring everyone involved to face judgment and the election in this area will be rescheduled for a later date for the people to perform their civic rights.
