The day after Meath’s comprehensive win over Wicklow, Meath senior footballer Eamon Wallace sat down with me to have a chat about his career to date.
We spoke firstly about his debut 9 years ago in the first round of the Leinster Championship. We remembered fondly Kevin Reilly’s goal from inside Meath’s own half and discussed Eamon’s performance on that day in which he cemented his place on the Meath senior team.
We then spoke about Eamon’s tough injuries throughout his career. Eamon spoke how getting an ACL injury at such a young age helped him to be able to deal with injuries a lot better. He spoke at length about his regime during the injury process
Next we discussed playing Jim Gavin’s mighty Dublin team during 2013 to 2019. Eamon spoke about how he got confidence from running them close in 2013. He went onto speak about how going into a big game against Dublin that he and the rest of the team always believe that they can beat them.
Finally we spoke about the upcoming challenge against Dublin in the Leinster Semi-Final. We spoke about the strength of the qualifiers this year. Eamon spoke about how he is focused on dealing with one game at a time and although Dublin look strong, Eamon is confident Meath can put it up to them again this year.
