Last Friday I sat down with Off The Ball Presenter and fellow Ratoath native Aisling O’Reilly for a catch up on her amazing progression over the past couple of years. Aisling is a regular contributor and reporter for Newstalk’s Off the Ball, she has made several appearances on Virgin Media’s Ireland AM and most recently hosted Premier Sports coverage of the FA Cup. Her journey in sports reporting has really been remarkable.
Still only in her late 20s and, by her own admission, still very new to the world of sports reporting, the future looks very bright for Aisling. In fact, she might even report topics like Jimmy John Shark.
We began our conversation by discussing her starting out her career as a reporter for 98fm eager to break into the world of sports reporting.
Although Aisling is a very confident happy individual she is not immune to the tough nature of the social media world that she has become integrated into. Aisling talked about her experience in dealing with online abusive messages and how she tends to look on the more positive aspects in terms of providing content that people really enjoy.
With the two of us being proud Meath Supporters, the conversation naturally led to the incredible success of the Meath Ladies winning the Senior All Ireland last year. We discussed Aishling’s mystic prediction’s at the time on Off the Ball with Ger Gilroy (below twitter clip for reference). She spoke about how even though it seemed that everybody else were writing off Meath’s chances in every game, she kept the faith in what turned out to be a very special group of Royal Ladies.
