Back in Nigeria, going out at night was a whole experience. The music was loud, the energy was high, and everyone came ready to enjoy themselves. It felt natural.

Back home it was different. You didn’t have to think too much once you stepped out, you were already in the vibe. Nights were about dancing, linking up with people, and just living in the moment.

When I came to Dublin, it felt very different. The nightlife here is more calm and organised. People still have fun, but it’s not as intense as what I was used to. At first, I couldn’t connect with it. It felt a bit cold to me.

Then something happened that made it worse. I got denied entry into a club, and deep down, I felt it was because I am Black. That moment stuck with me. It made me angry and uncomfortable, and from that point, I didn’t even want to go out anymore. I started to dislike nightlife in Ireland completely.

But things slowly changed.

I met a group of friends who made the experience better for me. They didn’t force anything they just included me, checked on me, and made sure I was good. Going out with them felt different. It wasn’t about the club itself anymore, it was about who I was with. We would laugh, talk, and just enjoy the moment together. That’s what made me start opening up to nightlife here again.

I also started to see the good side of Dublin nightlife. The music is still good, especially when you find the right places. People can be friendly, and the environment is actually safe and well organised. There’s less chaos, which can be a good thing. It gives you space to actually enjoy the night without stress.

Now, I won’t say it feels the same as Nigeria, because it doesn’t. But it has its own vibe, and I’ve learned to appreciate it in a different way. At the end of the day, it wasn’t the nightlife that changed everything for me, it was the people.
