Hosted by Swords Basketball Club. Griffith College Swords Thunder men played against UCD Marian in a big top of the table clash starting at 5 PM. This was followed by Griffith College Swords Thunder women playing FR Matthews at 7 PM.
ALSAA witnessed some top-level Basketball. The collaboration of Dublin Thunder and Swords basketball club offered great excitement for basketball lovers in Dublin.
UCD Marian travelled to Swords yesterday in a top-of-the-table clash, it was imperative that Dave Baker’s side got back to a winning streak.
In the Men’s Super League, Griffith College Swords Thunder men bounded their way to the top of the table, beating UCD Marian down in ALSAA last night. The score lead to a fantastic win by Griffith College Swords Thunder leading 93- 86 UCD Marian.
Fantastic performances from Marian’s Mike Garrow and Mario Markowicz, managed to keep the score tight. However, the superb display from Griffith College Swords Thunders’ Travis Black and Isaac Westbrook sent them into a 7 point lead at the end of the game.

Basketball Ireland Men’s Super League Updates:
Griffith College Swords Thunder 93-86 UCD Marian
This game was followed by V’s Fr. Mathews Basketball Club Cork in the Super League which was also held in ALSAA. The final score was FR Matthews. Griffith College Swords Thunder 64- 86 FR Matthews.
An impressive start from both Griffith College Swords Thunder and FR Matthews. Griffith College Swords Thunder made some terrific shots however, the defence was very strong from FR Matthews leaving Griffith College Swords Thunder to fall behind, which lead to the first half ending with a 15- 24 point lead to FR Matthews.
Overall the Griffith College Swords Thunder’s Katie Black made some terrific steals and assists from FR Matthews and made some great shots.
FR Matthew’s defence was great and they had some great shots from Amanda O Regan 5’9 Forward and 5’6 Guard Emma Gallagher.
There were also great shots and great rebounds from Kelsey Carey and some great shots by Katie Black and Kristine Miller in the first half of the match, scoring 37 points combined. The scores built up again with baskets from Eli Lopez Sagrera and Peggy Black.
FR Matthews began to dominate in the last quarter as they scored another 20 points. Although Griffith College Swords Thunders put up a solid fight, Fr Matthews ended up winning the game, with a final score of 86 points Fr Mathews and 64 points to Griffith College Swords Thunder. Overall it was a great game with top notch players on both sides.
Joan Black Griffith College Swords Thunders coach described the league to Basketball Ireland this year and what she expects over the next few weeks of the division. ‘’The league is extremely competitive, it’s such a balanced league, it is anybody’s, literally anybody. This league will be defined until the very end, just from looking at how we are now. There’s a lot to look forward. Teams are only getting used to each other, everybody wants the win’’
