The bogeyman in the closet: long-distance relationships. How do they work? What are the main challenges? And what are the solutions? Stay tuned to find out more!
When we are in our twenties, opportunities often take us far from home, so there are new kinds of challenges we have to face. Because of this, long-distance relationships have become more common than ever, but most people are really pessimistic when this topic comes on. You can’t blame them, since they might look romantic from the outside, the reality is often much more complex. The distance not only challenges communication, but trust, patience, and emotional resilience as well.
This is exactly what our podcast, Long Distance Diaries, aims to explore.
In this episode, we dive into the real-life experiences of a young couple navigating love across countries, Ireland and Hungary. With Mimi, studying law in Ireland and Ármin visiting from home, they agreed to share their experiences with us, so we are able to explore how a relationship like theirs can work, from both sides: the one who left and the one who stayed.
Rather than presenting an idealised version of long-distance love, they shared their true story with us, speaking honestly about the challenges of their situation, from both sides of the relationship.
We tried focusing on often overlooked details, like the routines that help them feel closer, the misunderstandings that can arise more easily, and the effort required from both sides to make things work. At the same time, the episode isn’t just about challenges. It also highlights the strengths that can come from being in a long-distance relationship. Many couples find that distance forces them to communicate more openly, appreciate each other more deeply, and build a stronger foundation based on trust and commitment.
Mimi and Ármin shared their experiences with us and also gave a couple of tips, on how to make it work. Whether you are currently in a long-distance relationship, considering one, or simply curious about how others make it work, this podcast is for you. So don’t waste your time, put your AirPods in, and enjoy the show.
