IMPORTANCE AND MEANING OF SOME NIGERIAN NAMES
Name is how a person is been addressed or referred to, every individual we know are been called by their names. It is interesting to know that names are very important even among the western culture.
Many Africans name their children according to traditions. Nigerian parents tend to be concise, but the exact customs differ by ethnic group. However, some families favour anglicised names, others don’t— but either way, names also reflect the parents ‘ aspirations of the child or the circumstances around the child’s conception.
Also, there are some popular customs in child naming among Nigerians for example; once twins are born, the first to arrive may be called Taiwo, meaning “the pre-tasted country,” and the second Kehinde, meaning “the one who lagged behind.”
