The most epic monster battle of all the times hits the pandemic box office records.
The global pandemic has dramatically affected all spheres of society. The areas affected by the Covid-19 included cinema. Since the beginning of quarantine in 2020, film studios worldwide have been forced to postpone or cancel numerous projects. Within a year, the situation improved, and cinemas reopened to the public.
Despite the difficult conditions of production and presentation, many films that viewers have been waiting for years came out in 2021.
The list of the lucky pictures released this year was also joined by the 4th film by Legendary Entertainment and co-produced and distributed by Warner Broth. Pictures and Toho studio (Japan), Godzilla vs Kong.
Godzilla vs Kong is an American fictional film directed by Adam Wingard and produced by Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni. It is a sequel to the Legendary’s pictures Godzilla (2014), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Kong: Skull Island (2017) and the 4th film in the MonsterVerse franchise, which comprised the merger of the Godzilla franchise by Toho and the King Kong franchise by Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper. The project of the multifandom crossover was announced by Legendary Entertainment in October 2015.
The studio initially planned to release the 4th Hollywood monster film featuring Godzilla and Kong in the shared world in November 2020, but the film was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Godzilla vs Kong was theatrically released on March 24, 2021, in 38 countries worldwide, a week before the domestic release on March 31, where it was shown simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max.
On digital platforms, the picture was released on May 21, 2021, and is scheduled to be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray on June 15, 2021.
On the first week of the domestic release, Godzilla vs Kong made $32.2 million (32.8% of total gross), resulting in the best opening figure of the pandemic. In the second week, the film grossed $13.3 million, passing the 2020 Tenet and becoming the highest-grossing domestic release of the pandemic.
As of May 28, 2021, Godzilla vs Kong has grossed $96,88 million in the United States (22.4% in the domestic box office) and $336 million internationally (77,7 worldwide) worldwide total of $432.88 million.
Godzilla vs Kong received generally positive reviews from critics. The current figure on Rotten Tomatoes shows that 75% of 360 critics have given the film a positive review, while the film was liked by 91% of the audience.
