Lack of GNIB appointments raises issues for first-time applicants

Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) a term ever so popular to international students or workers who move to Ireland to work/study. It is a form of identity that they are here in the country legally essentially it is their VISA. With the incoming amount of people significantly higher than the number of available appointments – there seems to be a backlog of applicants who anxiously wait for the availability of an appointment so they can get their Visa/GNIB.

With the growing demand for appointments – there have been individuals who have decided to go out of their way and create online pages and platforms where one can “purchase” an appointment for a certain amount. Facebook pages were created with the intention of being the platform for sale.

We came across an individual who was struggling to get an appointment and opted to go down a similar service provider. What he did not realise was that the provider was selling him the wrong appointment which leads to him getting into trouble. A rather sticky situation for someone to be in especially when they are in a new country. Listen to the quick interview our reporter managed to have with him.

If it is your first time trying to obtain an appointment for the first time VISA/GNIB application always refer to the GNIB website. This will give you all the information you need and help you avoid getting into any unnecessary situations.
