Finally some good news: A Facebook group dedicated to spreading positive vibes

I don’t know about you, but I have had just about enough of all the doom, gloom and misery in the news these days. Wars, crime, violence, poverty. Brexit, Palestine and Covid-19. Rarely do we see anything positive in the news.

The deluge of depressing and often infuriating news is nothing new of course, but the proliferation of news on social media sites, exacerbated by the 24 hour news cycle, is starting to have a real, negative impact on my mental health, and the mental health of people across the world.

Do not get me wrong, staying informed and up-to-date, especially as a journalist, is so crucial in today’s climate. While I do try to read at least five articles a day, from various different news sources to stay abreast of current affairs, the precarious state of the world expounded in the news can be incredibly demoralising.

Every now and then I just want to read a good news story. Something uplifting about animals, for example, or stories about people helping, and not hating, each other, politicians taking actual, concrete steps to combat climate change. That sort of thing. Is that so much to ask?

So I created a group on Facebook called Finally Some Good News. It is a space dedicated to spreading good news stories to counteract the heavier stuff going on in the world today.

Please feel free to join the group and share any of your own good news stories with the group!
