Great news for students, graduates, educators, and employers across Ireland — the National Employer Survey 2024 is out, and the results are seriously encouraging.
Launched by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, this national survey reveals what Irish businesses really think about the graduates they’ve hired — and where they’re heading next.
So, what’s the verdict?
The majority of employers are very satisfied with the quality of both Higher Education (HE) and Further Education and Training (FET) graduates they’ve taken on in the last two years.
- 35% of employers hired HE graduates
- 24% brought in FET graduates
- 51% plan to hire HE grads in the next three years
- 45% say they’ll be looking at FET graduatess too
These numbers show that Ireland’s education system is doing something right — and that businesses are eager to keep tapping into that talent pipeline. But it’s not just about qualifications. Employers highlighted soft skills like flexibility, teamwork and time management.
These are the qualities making graduates stand out — and they’re key to thriving in the modern workplace. HE grads are especially in demand in the professional, scientific, and technical sectors, while FET grads are highly valued in construction and hospitality.
And while some employers aren’t currently hiring graduates due to limited vacancies or difficulty finding the right match, the future skills landscape is clear: IT management, sales, customer support, business development, and communication.
