For young people Snapchat is a must to show friends what they are up to. One feature of the app is a filter with a geographic tag to show where in the world you are. But did you know you could make your own geofilters?
If you are in Dublin you might see a geofilter for The Spire of Dublin, as well a “Greetings from Dublin” filter. And if you are at Dublin Airport you get a filter for the airport. But not all places have a geofilter, and not all geofilters out there look cool. To solve this Snapchat encourages users to make and submit their own geofilters for a geographic area they like.
Increased use in Ireland
Amongst young Irish people the use of Snapchat has grown the last few years. Especially amongst teenagers the messaging app is one of the most popular ways to keep in touch with peers.

How to submit
On their website Snapchat has a guide for what their geofilters should look like. Be aware there are some rules to follow before submitting. For example no use of hashtags or photographs in the filter.
Select a public place, neighborhood, landmark, venue or other location where people are likely to gather and send Snaps.
Snapchat also has a template for Illustrator and Photoshop to make it easier to create them.
It seems Snapchat is making another Dublin story, so this is the perfect opportunity to make a geofilter for a cool place in Dublin. Last time Dublin had a story was in April this year.
Ad revenue for Snapchat
According to Snapchats founder, Evan Spiegel, the app has close to 100 million daily users. But even with an user base that large the company has yet to be profitable. With geofilters the company looks to earn advertising money from sponsored geofilters. McDonald´s already has a filter, but is not yet known who Snapchat´s other partners will be.
