“shortly before my Invasive Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer surgery I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer as well, it was like being hit with a hammer all over again… I had two different cancer which needed two different treatment“
Colette Ryan was 31, living and working in Toronto, Canada until one day her whole life changed and she had to pack up and move back home to Ireland.
While in Toronto, Colette found a lump under her arm so she decided to go to her GP and that was when a lump was found under her breast. After undergoing series of test , she was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer. The only thing she could think of about was the fact she needed to go back home to her family in Ireland.
Shortly before her breast cancer surgery she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer therefore she had to have treatments for both cancer at the same time even though they are very different treatments.
Although Colette is now in remission, she sat with me to recount her story of how she found out, how she was able to pull through, her emotional state and life after cancer.
