In March 2020, a number of Irish, English and Australian messers got together to form Quarantine FM. Led by our fearless leader Anna Rose Charleton we ran as a digital radio station for a year, broadcasting 5 days a week, from our website. However, as the world reopened the Quarantine FM team wanted to do more for the creatives here in Ireland and so, phase 2 was born. QFM’s phase two is all about Irish music, podcasting and events! You can keep up with all the goss on our social media pages, or in our QFM’s Artists and Friends Facebook group!

We are very excited to announce our brand new Irish music podcast Cana Lab! Named after the Irish goddess of music, creativity and inspiration Cana Cludhmor, the Cana Lab podcast will focus on all things Irish music. We will posting weekly reviews of singles, albums and gigs as well as monthly interviews with popular Irish artists! There are three review teams going at all times so we have plenty of ears to listen and mouths to talk, so if you have a track that you want reviewed or maybe you just want to share your favourite Irish musician or band get in contact through our social medias or email us at music@quarantinefm.ie.

This is my team, the QFM gal squad featuring the wonderful Callyann Brennan & Jocelyne Mopiti. This week we got to review two new Irish singles; Soda Blonde’s “In the heat of the night” and The X Collective’s “WB”. Both are brilliant songs and I would recommend you all check them out!
“In the heat of the night” is a great indie pop rock tune by the Dublin based band Soda Blonde. It reminds me of Patti Smith and Chrissie Hynde with a modern HAIM edge. The lyrics, as pointed out by Callyann, are intricately chosen to tell the perfect story, and with them, Soda Blonde brings us into their world. Look out for their new album Small Talk, out July 9th. The album is inspired by the band’s lives in their 20’s with lead singer Faye O’Rourke explaining “Every part of of us is in here, both subliminally and literally. Lyrically, this record is collection of all my flaws and insecurities.” We love this new song and can’t wait for the album!
The second song we reviewed was The X Collective’s “WB”, featuring Chloë Agnew, Zapho, Senita, Toshín and Gemma Bradley. The X Collective is a music production platform designed by the artist for the artist. With over 70 members so far, The X Collective “sees community members working together to optimize creativity and achieve combined success.” Their new song “WB” is what I like to call ‘an absolute groover’ and you’ll find yourself moving to it from the start! The fact that there are so many musicians involved in this song only makes it more exciting as they come together to create one shared sound.
On our podcast this week, we chat all this “The heat of the night” and “WB” including our favourite lyrics and our guesses of what is coming next! Find it on all podcast streaming platforms or just click here or on the link below. Let us know of your thoughts and opinions in the comments below and don’t forget to like, share and follow!
