What is MAGIC LANTERN
Magic Lantern is basically a software enhancer that allows you a great number of add-ons which are designed to increase the functionality of your Canon DSLR cameras.
Magic Lantern is not a “hack”, or a modified firmware, it is an independent program that runs alongside Canon’s own software.
The program is not installed on the camera. First, it needs to be installed on a memory card and then activated in the camera menu.
Is it legal?
Yes. ML is being developed by photo and video enthusiasts who are using reverse engineering and not distributing any Canon code. Magic Lantern does not run afoul of the law.
Main Features
In terms of movie recording, magic lantern provides full control over bitrate and recording framerate, it enables HDR video recording and most importantly it enables recording of 14-bit uncompressed RAW video to your CF card.
