The Attractions of Blessington

Blessington is steeped in the Irish history. It is located in Wicklow, a county in Dublin and still feels like a Dublin Suburb. In Wicklow, Blessington is said to be one of the biggest towns in the west. Although, the county Wicklow has so many attraction sites to see. Discover blessington.

A famous place would be the Wicklow mountains, which is hard to miss if you decide to drive down to the county and the best way to experience the Wicklow mountains is to visit the Wicklow Mountains National Park. Its surroundings include Arklow, Glendalough, the famous sugar loft, Bray, Powerscourt and many more.

Historically, Blessington is known as “Ballycomeen”. In Irish, it is called “Baile Coimin” meaning “town of Comyn” and is gotten from an Irish surname Coimin. The town’s major attraction is the lake, popularly known as Poulaphoura reservoir, Blessington Lake.

How to get to Blessington Lake

According to google map, Blessington is 25km away from Dublin city center by car. The Bus Eireann provides a minor service because Blessington is on the N81. If you decide to take a bus, the bus 65 will be your best bet. It goes from Dublin city center via Rathmines, Terenure, Templeogue and Tallaght on the Blessington and is about an hour each way.

What are the things to do and see in Blessington?

Both Tourists and Residents has totally embraced the beautiful lake of the village and because it is considered to be the center of attraction for Blessington, residents have created a plethora of outdoor pursuits, boat hires that would be perfect for both families, tourists and anyone who enjoys outdoor activities. The reservoir offers so many drives and walks. There is a walk called the Blessington Greenway walk which links to Russborough House. Russborough House. Russborough House is architecturally beautiful and offere’s both guided and self-guided tours. It is one of the best preserved stately homes where you can grab a coffee and a scone.
