THE CIRCULAR

Audio interview: the dark sides of Christmas

Finally! We are in December, time for Christmas! Streets wear their best decorations and fir trees grow everywhere. People already plan their holidays and think now about the best food they can make and the best presents they can offer to their lovely family. Well, that’s the cliche of Christmas. There is also dark sides. Ireland get bogged down in a huge homeless crisis with 10,338 people living in the street in September 2019. They are each year watching people buying presents with an obvious lack of empathy. Over-consumption is huge during this period without consumerism, Christmas would be totally different. This leads to a negative environmental impact: for example, for only the Christmas dinner, 150 million miles worth of carbon is emitting. The Circular went on the street to ask people about the dark sides of Christmas.
