According to the World Tourism Organization’s publication “World Tourism Barometer“, a total of 917 million international tourists travelled the world in 2022. Aspiring adventurers have proven themselves to be resilient and resourceful, these statistics increased compared to the 2020 statistics during the Covid 19 pandemic.

While not yet achieving pre-pandemic levels, this is considered a notable recovery and one which bodes well for 2023 as it sets out to consolidate its comeback.

Here are the most visited countries in the world, according to the last issue of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer – January 2023.

1. France – With 48.4 million visitors.

France is the most visited country in the world, with 48.4 million visitors to France in 2022. France is known for its sculptural buildings and dashing places to visit. The country also has some monumental heritage that gives tourists a wonderful experience during their time there.

From the boulevards of Paris to the fashionable seaside resorts of the Côte d’Azur, France offers some of the most beautiful sceneries in the world. The fairy-tale castles, glorious cathedrals, and picture-perfect villages delight romantic tourists.

At the same time, the country’s contemporary monuments and rapid train transit marvel visitors from the storybook surroundings into the ambience of the 21st century.
