We all love chocolate. We love having chocolate drinks, chocolate bars and even chocolate cakes. Its understandable because chocolate is sweet. Milk chocolate is commonly known as the most common kind of chocolate due to its light brown colour, creamy texture, and sweet taste. Some people prefer milk chocolate to dark chocolate mainly because of its sweetness. Dark chocolate is a rich, bitter confection made primarily of cocoa solids, sugar, and cocoa butter (with no milk added). It is also very healthy. Here are 6 healthy facts about dark chocolate.

  1. It’s very nutritious. It’s packed with minerals and has a good quantity of soluble fibre. Cocoa and dark chocolate have an outstanding fatty acid profile. Saturated and monounsaturated fats predominate, with minimal concentrations of polyunsaturated fat. It also incorporates stimulants like caffeine and theobromine, although the caffeine content is low relative to coffee, so it’s unlikely to keep you up at night.
  2. Dark chocolate has been shown to improve cognition, prevent memory loss, and improve mood. According to research, eating a lot of dark chocolate is good for the brain. The high levels of flavonoids present in dark chocolate have been found to accumulate in areas of the brain responsible for learning and memory, according to science, such as a report released in April 2018 in The FASEB Journal.
  3. It has the potential to improve blood flow and lower blood pressure. The flavanols in dark chocolate will induce the production of nitric oxide (NO) by the endothelium, the lining of arteries. One of NO’s functions is to transmit signals to the arteries to relax, lowering blood flow resistance and thereby lowering blood pressure. Cocoa’s bioactive compounds can increase artery blood flow and lower blood pressure by a small but statistically relevant amount.
  4. Anti-inflammatory compounds found in dark chocolate can aid in the reduction of inflammation in the body. To enjoy these anti-inflammatory effects, make sure to select dark chocolate that contains at least 70% cocoa (a higher percentage is much better).
  5. Dark chocolate consumption on a regular basis can help to lower a person’s risk of developing heart disease. Flavanols, one of the substances used in dark chocolate, affect two main risk factors for heart disease: elevated blood pressure and high cholesterol.
  6. It’s possible that it’ll protect the skin from the sun. Dark chocolate’s bioactive compounds can also be beneficial to your skin. Sun protection, improved blood flow to the skin, and increased skin density and hydration are all benefits of flavanols. The minimal erythemal dose (MED) is the amount of UVB rays that are needed to induce skin redness 24 hours after exposure.

There is a lot of evidence that cocoa has a lot of health benefits, particularly when it comes to heart disease prevention. This does not imply that you can eat a lot of chocolate every day. It’s also high in calories and easy to eat so much of.After dinner, maybe have a square or two and continue to savour them. Try having a hot cocoa without any cream or sugar if you like the advantages of cocoa without the calories of chocolate.
