I am pleased to give you an assorted collection of fun facts. Every now and then it’s good to freshen up on our “did you knows”. Fun facts are great ice-breakers and conversation starters, and it is always good to have a few up your sleeve for desperate situations.
For instance, you probably knew that it is impossible to lick your elbow, but did you know that over 75 % of the people who read this will try? And why do we say, “Bless you” when you sneeze? Well, it’s because your heart stops for a millisecond, making you momentarily dead.
Did you know that it’s impossible for pigs to look up into the sky? Or that on average, dogs have better eyesight than humans? Although, theirs is not as colourful as ours.
Another fun, or maybe not so fun fact, is that more than 50 % of the worlds population has never made or received a phone call. Wearing headphones for just an hour will increase the bacteria in your ear by 700 times. Think of that the next time someone asks to borrow your headset.
Inevitably we have to talk about people who go online for dates. 35 % of those using personal ads for dating are already married. Not so interesting now is it?
We knew that fingerprints were unique, but we have another print that is ours, and ours alone. The tongue. Every tongue print is different. In an effort to talk about something a little more shocking, a person can live without food for about a month, but only a week without water. If the amount of water in your body is reduced by just 1%, you’ll feel thirsty. If it’s reduced by 10%, you’ll die.
Further, let me just put this myth to sleep once and for all, money isn’t made out of paper; it’s made out of cotton.
Have you ever wondered who invented the scissors? I’ll tell you, it was none other than the man who could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time, the one and only Leonardo Da Vinci. Speaking of inventions, outside the USA, Ireland is the largest software producing country in the world.
If like me you cry like a baby when you cut onions, you should try chewing a gum while chopping. Watch the clip below and see for yourself.
A sad and depressing “fun-fact” is that on average, 12 new-borns will be given to the wrong parents daily. So keep them where you can see them.
Finally I will stop this nonsense by telling you that Coca-Cola would be green if colouring weren’t added to it. That’s weird, right?
