Due to the thriving demand for a healthier alternative to smoking, electronic cigarettes, also known as “vaping“ has become the number one option for smokers, to live a healthier lifestyle and replace the regular smokes. Multiple other reasons such as the affordability, the convenience and the no smell factor play a huge role in people making the change to electronic cigarettes.
What are E-Cigarettes?
E-Cigarettes are electrical devices that are operated by a battery, that are basically a healthier alternative to smoking a regular cigarette. It does not look like your traditional cigarette design or shape, but it does the job just like an ordinary cigarette. Essentially E-Cigarettes is a modernized alternative to your nicotine consumption also known as a nicotine delivery device. The big question here is, WHY HAS IT BECOME SO POPULAR?
How it works!
In every E-Cigarette, there is an element inside the atomizer which stores your liquid, that is called a coil. The coil heats up when the power button is pressed and it evaporates the liquid in your tank, creating the vapor. This vapor contains your nicotine and delivers it to your body in order to satisfy your dependence towards nicotine. With all these pieces combined, all you have to do is push a button which heats the coil up in the atomizer, this vaporizers the liquid, and you just have to inhale on the mouthpiece and you are vaping.
Is it safer than traditional tobacco/smoking?
Whenever there are talks about smoking we all know that it is bad for our health and it is an extremely unhealthy and addictive habit to pick up. But there are arguments in the air about E-Cigarettes being a healthier alternative in comparison to regular cigarettes. More people find it easier to give up the dependence, as they are able to get their nicotine fix with E-cigarettes in a less harmful form factor, which eliminates the consumption of tar and tobacco which are the most toxic substances from a regular cigarette.
No doubt that the use of E-Cigarettes are new and there are still a lot of questions about the impact of it on one’s body that is yet to be answered. That is why the regulation on the industry is imperial to ensure that the public’s health is looked out for. Organizations like the Health Service Executives ( HSE ), Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ), Cancer Research UK and many more, are continuously conducting research and experiments in order to obtain a better understanding of the effects of E-cigarettes on the human body in comparison to regular tobacco.
A study by Cancer Research UK found that group of people who switched to electronic cigarettes for 6 months, had lower toxic and chemical levels in their body, as compared to those who smoked traditional tobacco. They also found out, in order for this method to be effective, a complete change from the traditional cigarettes need to be made, as opposed to gradually cutting down and then going on the electronic cigarettes. This also means that the user is less likely exposed to the harmful chemicals and toxins which are found in regular tobacco, which could lead to the development of cancer cells.
How do I make the change?
It is not very hard to make the change. Even though, it may seem simple enough, there is a couple of things which come into consideration when purchasing your first device. As there are a variety of different devices out there, your local store will do their best to find out which suits your style and most importantly your budget.
In addition to that, when selecting your E – liquids for your device, they have different levels of nicotine strengths which they would recommend, based on the amount you would smoke daily and the number of years you have been smoking for. Therefore, it is important that you start off on the right foot so that you get a good first experience and not a horrible one which will put you off the whole idea of vaping.

WHY HAS VAPING BECOME SO POPULAR?
Tadas Latvenas, the manager in Vintage Vape Rooms who has been working in the industry for over two years now. In his own words, “vaping has become so popular in Europe over the past few years is due to the cost as one of the main factors and also the health benefits. With cigarette prices constantly on the rise, and vape prices constantly dropping, it seems to be gaining popularity”. The price difference between smoking and vaping is rather significant. Though the initial investment can be rather hefty based on what kind of device you are buying. But the upkeeping fee is cheaper. He added that “ vaping has huge health benefits. Thou people may be sceptical at the beginning – that is completely fine – because that shows they care about their health and want the best alternative for nicotine consumption”.
There has been a global rise in vapers from seven million in 2011 to a whopping thirty-five million in 2016. This proves, that a huge amount of people find that it is the healthier option. Which is slowly making vaping become the number one choice for nicotine consumption.
When we asked Tadas what was a pattern that he has identified in vapers, throughout his journey working there – he said that every person who has purchased a device from them, “never could imagine the day that they would give up smoking and it has changed their life’s as they feel so much better, and over time their breathing got better and they felt much younger and healthier”. The biggest response from this was the fact that the use of e-cigarette is almost 95% less harmful than smoking regular tobacco. It is evident that there are multiple variables which have led to the significant spike in the usage of E-Cigarettes in the past couple of years. This has no doubt played a huge role in the boom of the industry and is going to continue growing as the years go by as more research is carried out, to prove that it is a healthier alternative to smoking and obtaining your daily need of nicotine.
