The Student Media Awards took place in the Ballsbridge Hotel to an audience of students who represented various colleges and universities, from places like Dublin, Limerick, Galway and Cork. The awards were presented by the nation’s most prevalent media professionals, from the Irish Examiner, RTE,  the Irish Independent and The Irish Times, to name a few.

The ceremony was hosted by everyone’s favorite ‘hardy buck’, The Viper  – or  Chris Torndoff as he is also known. Griffith College was nominated in many categories, including ‘Radio Documentary of the Year’, ‘News Photographer of the Year’ the ‘RSA Award for Journalism Relating to Road Safety’.

Among the GCD winners, was Chiara Pizzi for ‘Short Story of the Year’ (Daffodil). Four Griffith shows were nominated out of the five for the ‘Radio Production of the Year: Arts and Features’ category, including The Zine from the MA class and Capital 8 from the BA class.  With the ‘drive time’ format, Capital 8 took home the award.
