Ahhh, The Procrastination! What a thing, isn’t it? That is probably the reason why you are here.
I know you, big procrastinator, will try to procrastinate this reading too, but well, I will be brief, and the main thing here is a video about it, and we all love a good ‘pit stop’ on YouTube when we have loads to do, right?
The Cambridge Dictionary says: Procrastination – to keep delaying something that must be done, often because it is unpleasant or boring.
Actually, we all know what it is, we have all been there. That crazy feeling of “I need to clean this mess right now”, or “I will check out what is going on Facebook“, or “I might cook that lasagna that I’ve been craving for months”. In fact, some people do more than others.
However, this kind of proscratination is not too bad. But have you ever thought about the proscrastination you have been doing with your life? Your dreams? Those places you were dying to go? Or that dream job, which the salary is not the best, but would be just the ideal for you?
There is no excuse for that anymore. Time pass so quickly and one day you will wake up asking what you had done of your life. Maybe you wouldn’t make too much money in your dream job, but who cares? It might be cliche, but stop doing what you hate and start doing what you love. Don’t sell yourself. Stop complaining about your office job, and quit. Stop complaining about your boyfriend, and break up. Do yourself a favour and watch this TEDx video below. Tim Urban explains everything you need to know about this dangerous type of procrastination. It is something that I thankfully realised few years ago when I left the comfort of my home and decided to live abroad (one of my dreams since I was a little one). I left my job, my friends, my family, everything really, to follow my dreams in another continent. I also procrastinated that for few years, excuses to myself, as the job, career, college, boyfriend, family & friends, but suddenly I woke up and I made it. Please, do it as well. Quit your job, follow your dreams, travel the world. There is so much out there! Now watch that video (as the only procrastination today) and stop procrastinating your life before it is too late.
“Tim Urban knows that procrastination doesn’t make sense, but he’s never been able to shake his habit of waiting until the last minute to get things done. In this hilarious and insightful talk, Urban takes us on a journey through YouTube binges, Wikipedia rabbit holes and bouts of staring out the window — and encourages us to think harder about what we’re really procrastinating on, before we run out of time”.
What have you procrastinated on and how has that affected your life? I would love to hear from you!
