João Félix: Is he the next Golden Ball?

Some of football fans call him ‘The New Ronaldo’, others see similarities with the Brazilian Kaká in the way he dazzles with the ball. One thing is for sure: Atletico Madrid’s forward is one of the great promises of European football.

Who is Joao Felix?

We are talking about a 20-year-old Portuguese forward, who attracted the attention of the great European clubs last season, with brilliant performances playing for Benfica, the current Portuguese champion. The high level of exhibitionism of the Portuguese international led Atletico Madrid to spend 120 million euros on his pass, making him the most expensive sale ever for the Lisbon club.

Joao Felix is another product of Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s Academy, considered the best Football Academy in the world, from where came numerous worldwide recognised names, such as Renato Sanches (Lille), Gonçalo Guedes (Valencia), Nélson Semedo (Barcelona), or Ederson and Bernardo Silva (Manchester City).

João Félix is the most recent Portuguese football rising star, and in whom the Portuguese people place great faith to help in the conquest of Euro-2020, where Portugal will defend the title of European champions. Felix, who has five goals scored this season, has almost guaranteed his presence in the squad of the Portuguese coach, Fernando Santos.

The young ‘colchonero’ has a great competition to briefly assume the position disputed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the last decade as Golden Ball, the trophy that distinguishes the best player in the World every year, but lack of talent will not be a justification for João Félix doesn’t stay among the great names of modern football for years to come.

The video above shows one of João Félix best moments last season. In this match, the Portuguese forward scored against FC Porto and helped Benfica to reach the first place.
