Maureen Grant began working in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre in 1949 after applying for a three week position. Sixty Five long years later, Maureen isn’t ready to hang up her waistcoat and dicky-bow just yet, and is still pulling pints behind the bar.
Maureen’s has seen it all in her 65 years as a barmaid. Forced to hide her children in various places around the theatre (women weren’t allowed to work if they were married with children back then), Maureen worked every night and as a result, has become as famous as the venue herself.
Take a listen to this four minute piece about her life in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre-her life is pretty fascinating.
