The Republic of Ireland football team have an intriguing prospect on their hands in the form of 17-year-old Adam Idah. The Cork native has been in incredible form as of late, scoring 7 goals in the first 3 games of European Championship qualifying for the Irish under 17 national team. That has left him as top scorer in qualifying overall, thus far.

Idah, who joined Norwich City from College Corinthians last summer, opened the qualifying campaign scoring a hat-trick against Azerbaijan in a 6-0 win. He then followed that up with two goals against Bulgaria in a 3-0 win and two more goals against Ukraine in a 3-1 win. This is even more extraordinarily impressive because all three games took place within a week.

These three wins have earned Ireland a 100% record in the 1st round of qualifying. They will now go on to the elite round of qualifying, where they attempt to qualify for the championships that will be held in England next year. Idah, who is of Irish and Nigerian descent, has continued to shine following last season, where he scored 8 goals in 10 games for the under 17’s. This was a major factor  as to why Norwich decided to sign the youngster last July.

Here is a video of Idah’s highlights.

Here’s a video of Ireland beating Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-1 last May, in which Idah got a goal and an assist.

U17 Highlights: Republic of Ireland 2-1 Bosnia & Herzegovina

Idah stands out on the pitch because of his unique size and athleticism for a 17 year old. He also has very quick feet and is very comfortable on the ball. Idah’s goal scoring record has been particularly impressive, as it seems as though he rarely goes a game without scoring. It’s way too early to predict just how far Idah can go in his career, but the forward is certainly one to keep a close eye out for in the future.

good article. I saw him play for Corinthians when he was young, always looked a good player glad he’s doing well.
